This thesis gives an overall analysis about the "Truman Show ", a new TV program formation. The" Truman Show " is not only refers to the game contesting "Truman Show" we usually mention, it also includes the life documenting "Truman Show", the servicing "Truman Show", the secretly shooting "Truman Show" etc. We expand the range of" Truman Show" in order to pay more attention to the other forms of it. The basic feature of the "Truman Show" is its "reality" and its "show". The "Truman Show" mixes the feature of document, soap opera, and game entertainment together during its developing, but still makes some differences to them. In the developing of these forms of TV program, we can find the trace of the "Truman Show", but it does not express itself until the mass culture enters into its prosperous day, the day when we are living in an era of after-industry, in a cultural of hedonics, consumption, and experience. The "Truman Show" is the product of capital operating. It satisfies the audience's lusts to peering, to truth finding, to participating, to sentiments approving, and to life entertaining. It has its own selling methods. But to the traditional culture and ethics of China, those methods are always dysfunctional. Besides, there are lots of distinction in the media system, producer strength and audience structure between China and aboard, so we must make some native reform when we import the formation of the "Truman Show". We also feel extremely anxious about the moral degenerating under the flourish of the "Truman Show". The essence of this is the anxious about our consumptive society. More and more things are changed into consumption, including our privacy, humanity and feeling. But we should use double-faced tactics when we analyze the moral problem the program has triggered. We should have the confidence that the "Truman Show" can find the balance between the moral and the market.
