Automatic Gauge Control System (AGC) is an important part in automatic system in mill. The classical control theory is based on accurate mathematic model. But because of complexity of mill process mechanism, it is difficult to build an exact mathematic model. Intelligent control technology is an effect way to solve the problem of automatic gauge control.In this paper, mill process mechanism is deeply analized and fuzzy control technology is used in AGC. A method based on fuzzy PID control is presented.In AGC, fuzzy PID controller is constructed with a PID controller and a fuzzy regulator. According to input signals and their trends, the fuzzy regulator adjusts parameters of K_P, K_I and K_D online through the decision gotten by FIS to make the object have good static and dynamic charactors.In this paper, a distributed control system is build with CANBUS and related software and hardware are designed. Functions of controllers are completed with assembler whose running speed is fast. Interfaces of the operating hand and the engineers' station are designed with Visual C++. Finally, the AGC based on fuzzy PID is complished.The actual operation effect make clear that the new AGC system has great raise in the accuracy and good performance in self-regulating. It resolvs the problems such as the slow adjusting, easy overshoot and so on in the past a certain extent. This system can satisfied the modern metal rolling Automatic Gauge Control System industry request better.
