| In recent years, the portable electronic products, such as mobile phones, is becoming more popular in the market, especially in Asia. Portable devices, which belong to the energy limited battery powered system, require the utmost in efficiency in order to provide full system capability and maximum battery life. So efficient power management becomes a key factor in electronic design, and high conversion efficiency and stabilized output voltage are two main performance objectives.My work is the design and tape-out of a high efficiency current-mode step-down DC-DC converter. After the reverse pickup of some similar commercial chips, I accomplished the design of the whole system and internal circuit modules. Spectre simulations are done on each cell and the whole system in cadence and prospective value are achieved. Finally the chip is fabricated with 0.6um CMOS (csmc) process.This dc-dc converter has three features: current mode control, PWM, synchronous rectification technology. The paper makes the analysis of the principles of the features which is verified by simulations in candence.Power management ICs are not only a part of mixed signal IC, but also are a part of power IC. The paper contains some experience about design of power mosfet structures and mixed signal processing.By the project, I achieved global view of complicated circuit modules design, system function realization and tapout procedure. The paper records many useful data and design experience, and also gives some suggestions for future optimization design. |
