WCDMA is one of the most competitive standards of 3G mobile communication system. WCDMA technology offers the new-type radio interface called Uu betweent user equipment and radio access network. This paper is focused on the implementation of the functions provided by the physical layer of Uu based on the CRA(chip rate assistant) DSP.The CRA DSP selects TI TMS320C6416 digital signal processor for use. The uplink chip rate DSP, along with the CRA DSP, implements the receive chip rate functionality. The CRA DSP forms the uplink closed loop power control with the downlink chip rate DSP via McBSP.In the first part of this thesis, we provide a full view of the physical layer and give some basic concepts. In the second part, the structure of the baseband unit is given.Then, the software and hardware design of CRA is introduced. In the third part, the procedure of the radio link setup is given. Then, the mapping arithmetic of transport format combination indicator onto spreading factor is discussed in detail. In the fourth part, the implement means of the radio link set synchronization state monitored by the physical layer is presented. Then, the realization of the uplink closed loop power control in CRA DSP is discussed. In the last part of the thesis, from the view of the common and dedicated measurement, the implement for the measurement functions of physical layer is carried on research. At last, the problems met in the process of measurement module design are summarized.
