User Acceptance of Information Technology (UAIT) and Information System Effectiveness (ISE)are two major domains within the research of information system. UAIT theory argues that, no matter how advanced and significant an information system is, it can only take effect on the precondition that the target users accept and actually utilize it. Consequently, UAIT-related researches generally take the users' acceptance and utilization behavior as the dependent variable to analyze factors that influence these behaviors, with users' attitudes, intention and cognition as the research focuses. On the other hand, ISE theory contends that researches should be focused on any inadequacy in users' acceptance and utilization, and point to the importance and value of IT investment by the enterprises. Thus ISE researches adopt the utilization outcomes such as individual and organizational efficacy as dependent variables, and utilization behaviors, organization environment and system characteristics as the predictor variables of the utility of the information system. This research asserts that the utility of an information system, i.e., the contribution of IS to the performance impact of users and organization, should be mutually realized by the actual utilization of the users and escalation of users' work efficacy. In other words, these two theoretical approaches to information technology and information system are complementary and in the same line of development. This research attempts to coordinate researches in the two fields and study factors that influence ERP system utility.Following the traditional UAIT way of thinking, firstly, this research focuses on factors that have a bearing on the utilization tendency and behaviors. Secondly, this research also takes the compatibility degree as an important aspect that influences ERP utility. As in real situations, ERP system is possibly pressed into service and the utilization behaviors can be affected by users' subjective norms of behavior, in which case the compatibility degree between ERP system and users' work becomes effective in affecting ERP. Finally, a questionnaire is designed to investigate domestic use of ERP system among 61 companies and empirical data are collected to analyze the theoretical model and hypotheses of this research. Major conclusions of this research include, ERP-related education and training outcomes are influenced by users' knowledge and experience;organizational support can enhance users' perception of usable resources when using ERP;more than intention of usage, the Work-System Fit and subjective norms can better explain user behaviors;improvement of the Work-System Fit can significantly improve the utility of ERP.
