Distributed applications have created important challenges in the management world during the recent years. Integrated, standard, scaleable, and effective management solutions have been requested in order to cope with the great proliferation and increasing importance of this kind of applications. However the traditional CMIP-based management system have problems on different aspects of management: identification and definition of new management functionality, adaptation of existing management functionality from the network management field, management instrumentation of distributed applications, integration of these new management frameworks with traditional ones, etc. This paper describes the particular approach adopted for the design and implementation of an CMIP-based management system for a CORBA-based distributed application: The paper will describe the architecture of the management gateway, which include 3 models :the core gateway model which abstact some featues between CORBA and OSI field, the symbol translator which includes the language translation rules, and the activity translator model which includes the interaction translation rules. The three model have played a key role in the design of this management system mainly in the phase of the management information models translation. With the praticing of campus network management in RuiAn High School,it proved that the model is scaleable, and effective management in CMIP-based gateway for a CORBA-based distributed application which tackle the above problems in management, but also present a trend for the developing of integrating network management system.
