The paper proposes a new-generation wireless water meter system, which is based on wireless sensor networks. The highly automated system simplifies the process of tracking water record. It introduces wireless sensor networks routing protocols emphatically. Two customized routing protocols are designed for wireless water meter system. The first protocol, which is based on flooding scheme, is easy for implementation and has good reliability. However, the energy consumption among nodes are not well balanced; therefore, the network life cycle decreases. Energy-balanced dynamic power route protocol solves the problems caused by flooding based protocol. It balances node energy consumption and prolongs network life cycle, while remains high reliability. The paper describes the design of these two protocols, including communication frame design, data collection, and time synchronization scheme. It also analyses the reliability, network life cycle, energy balance, robustness and transport real-time performances of each protocol. Finally, it introduces the hardware system of wireless water meter system, including RF chip CC1000, and microcontroller MSP430F1132. |
