The large data of the image is the graphic monitor of transmitting and storage, and wavelet image coding is a prospective image compression method. So this paper researches how to use the correlation of the wavelet coefficients to realize the image coding.The main work of this paper is follow:1. Research the lifting scheme of data series;2. Research the wavelet coding based on lifting scheme;3. Research the embedded coding technology, and comparing several embedded coding arithmetic;4.Give a embedded coding method based on wavelet lifting scheme. This method uses changeable length coding against the shortcoming of EZW. At the same time, It adopts the splitting method of SPIHT for zero-tree structure, in order to reduce the abundance of data.The algorithm aims at improving the compression ratio in lossless image compression and the quality in loss image compression. The experiments show that this algorithm is superior to EZW algorithm in compression ratio and decoding quality. In the mean time, the algorithm can point the coding ratio based on need, and is flexible; and realize the layered progressive coding.
