The reusability, platform-independence and reliability are all the important criteria for software. The middleware technique just meets the above demands, which shield the difference of various operating systems or networking protocols. It can supply right communication mechanism and platform, so as to construct a relative steady and high-level environment for various applications. Therefore, The middleware technique supplies a steady high-level environment for application program. Now it has been a pivotal technique for designing distributed heterogeneous information system on network. Together with opration system and database administration system, it is called basic system software supports. It is the trend of software design and deployment in enterprises.J2EE is an architecture that can simplify project on enterprise's business, the kernel of which is Java. It has a lot of advantage, such as " Write-once-run anywhere", JDBC API, CORBA and safe mode for data protection in Internet. It still supports for EJB (Enterprise JavaBeans), Java Servlets API, JSP ( Java Server Pages) and XML. Via offering intermediate layer, J2EE architecture brings to us the high usability, dependability as well as expandability. It also provides a good mechanism to build network system with retractility, agility and maintainability. J2EE can not only debase multilayer application's costs and complexities , but also have a strong support for online application. As J2EE support Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) completely, we can easily pack or deploy application, besides enhancing security and performance.First, this thesis introduces briefly the middleware technique, its development and several popular middleware products. Besides, the status, new appliment requirement andtechnical direction of middleware are also analysed. The thesis then discusses in detail the theory of middleware, including J2EE architecture, application server, application components and the design under J2EE. The J2EE exception handling, JSP, JavaBean, JDBC, Servlet and EJB are also discussed.Based on the waterfall model of application system design, the author has developed the 《Management Information System of Scientific Research》 with J2EE. The detail background, business requirment and particular of the system are introduced in this thesis. The related key techniques, including object-oriented approach, modeling design, design pattern, data connection pool, EJB, security and transaction, are also discussed in the end.By the development of 《Management Information System of Scientific Research》 and analysis of J2EE theory, the thesis clarifies the way to build up a new 3-tiers,or even n-tiers, application system under J2EE architecture. Then it summarizes a related developing scheme and points out the signality of middleware.The above system has been well running in Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences for a long time, which improves evidently the work efficiency and makes the information shared sufficiently. Also it is extreme convenient for statistics of administration departments. So it brings much change on research work and information exchanging on the intranet.
