The Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) can configure the network intelligently according to the type and traffic of service and the network resources, so gives the optical network the ability of configurable bandwidth and dynamic end-to-end connection management. The network is firmly protected in mechanism and can be self recovered once unexpected accidents happen. So it is widely considered as the strategic technology in the Next Generation Network.The evolution history and trend for ASON are analysised in this paper. Then it concluded that ASON is inevitably to take place of traditional optic network for its explicit defect in meeting requirement of modern service. Then it explain the two typical hierarchy and function architecture network models, named overlay model and peer model . GMPLS protocols , which composed of signaling , routing and linking management protocols (LMP), expands labels to mark not only traditional data packets but also optical transport units such as TDM timeslots,wavelength, wave bundles or fibers.According to the mentioned theories and its specifications from national standards, MCP (Management and control processor) software is designed in this paper, which based on former version running on available optical node devices, such as MSTP and OADM/OXC. It can perform the basic functions defined in ASON control panel. It adds the route, signaling and LMP basic function modules to complete building, deleting or refreshing the SC's (switched connect) LSP (Label Switch Path). It is the most outstanding character that ASON have an independent Control Plane deviated from Transport Plane. This paper adopted a step by step resolution to implement Control Plane and design the MCP software without any big changes in originated hardware. This method strengthens the products competition and additional commerce value. Thus it benefits the service providers and makes full use of existing network equipments and devices.
