After people had recognized that the advantages of the space optical communication such as high data rating, low power consumption, good security assurance, small size, less weight, anti-jamming etc. are so attractive, the application of the space optical communication became the research focus in communication field. And now, there are many key technologies and problems which need to be solved in the space optical communication. Being the key technology, ATP (Acquisition, Tracking, Pointing) has become the focus.Acquisition and detection is the key technology in the whole ATP subsystem. Whether can detect the target effectively, real-time, can acquire the target exactly, are the keys for the establishing and the good operation of the whole communication link. So, it is very important to research the target acquisition and detection in the ATP subsystem.At first, we introduced the ATP system in the space optical communication and some common detection algorithms. Following, we discussed the process, the model, and the possibility of the acquisition and detection. And, on the base of the traditional acquisition and detection model, an improved acquisition and detection model for the error caused by vibration is given. Then, after analyzing the traditional detection algorithm in the space optical communication, for the high accuracy and real-time requirement that the space optical communication target detection need, paper proposed the algorithm with adaptive optimum threshold and 2-level filtering to satisfy the target detection requirements. At last, according to the actual system developed in our project, we gave the whole design of the acquisition and detection hardware unit. Additional, we evaluated the performance of the acquisition and detection hardware unit and our algorithm used in the project.The results came from the simulation and the hardware experiments indicate that the improved acquisition and detection possibility model, the detection algorithm, have some theoretic and actual value.
