As the wireless telecommunication networks evolving through the 2nd generation of GSM, 2.5G of GPRS, to the current 3rd generation standards represented by TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and CDMA2000, the demands for the multimedia service and wireless transmission bandwidth are becoming more and more serious. All these have accelerated the development of the next generation of networks. To make SCTP find more applications in NGN, SVWG working group has been releasing new extended protocols, but up to date these extended protocols are only rested in the stage of discussion, and the studies in the special transmission performance and applications are still not to the full extent. Thus this paper lays emphasis on the studies of applications and performance of the new type of transmission protocol (Stream control transmission protocol SCTP, IETF RFC2960) in the next generation of networks. In this paper, the two newest types of extended protocols are analyzed theoretically first: the mobile SCTP and SCTP non-reliable extending, which are raised just for solving the problems faced by the SCTP mobility visiting. In the extended draft the suppose of the location management and switching management with SCTP have been proposed, and in this paper through the studies of this draft and the related reference, the method and flow of location management and switching management that combined SIP, Mobile IP and Rser Pool have been proposed, thus making the application of SCTP to the mobile much easier. To compare the difference of transmission protocols fairly, the simulation has engaged the SIP protocol, which has been widely used as the application layer protocol. The analysis of SCTP performance is mainly through the comparison of the transmission delay with the two transmission protocols, UDP and TCP. In the paper the simulation igures and mathematical statistical methods are being used to do the comparison and analysis, and the conclusion agrees well with the theoretical analysis results.
