Both in the traditional telecommunication and SoftSwitch area, the technology about media bearer is always a significiant project to research on. It not only includes the research on bearer hard-ware, but also involves software design, for example, the bearer protocol, network architecture and bearer control technology etc. This paper introduces a theory and implementation for centralizing the processing of media transport in SoftSwitch system based on SIP. By introducing the concept of media schedule and relay, SoftSwitch can trunk and deliver media stream on the media bearer layer.The system described in this paper can be separated into two parts. One is in charge of the control function of media bearer, a.k.a Media Schedule System. The other is in charge of trunking and delivering media data, a.k.a Media Relay System. The media bearer function of SoftSwitch is achieved through cooperation of these two sub-systems.In addition to a brief introduction of system requirement and scheme, this paper describes those problems we encountered in our implementation and gives the solutions for them. For example, we modify the search algorithm in the schedule system to improve its run-time performance, and implement a in-kernel data delivering mechanism in the relay system to increase its capability.
