The system of the location service of PHS will give a lot of applications in the areas which need emergency service such as public security, finance and transportation. So it puts forward the need of selection and application of wireless positioning technology of PHS at the same time.This paper analyzes and compares several common wireless positioning technologies such as CELL-ID, TOA (time of arrival), TDOA (time difference of arrival) and AOA(angle of arrival);concludes that the positioning technology of single Cell-site ID is the most practical method nowadays combining function, economy and actual operability; proposes a viable application project and tests it on related platforms of Lucent PHS system. The study on application of wireless positioning technology which based on the PHS is valuable in economy and society by providing the location service of PHS to business and location information to people at low costs.The first chapter of the thesis, the preface, introduces the development of wireless location service , relative wireless positioning technology and some factors which influence the improvement of wireless positioning technology; statements the research goal and method and the mainly completed work of the thesis. In the second chapter, the constitute , application , characteristics and major technologies of PHS system are illustrated. Mainly used wireless positioning technologies in PHS system and their characteristics are analyzed in detail in the third chapter. The fourth chapter introduces the application project and lists the experimental result of single Cell-Id positioning method used in Lucent PHS concretely. Then a summary about the location service of PHS based on single Cell-Id positioning method is obtained and the future foreground of location service of PHS is predicted in the fifth chapter.Frankly, it maybe useful by using several positioning methods like TOA/AOA/TDOA to achieve greater accuracy because we can position jointly using several differently measured values.
