The main purpose of the subject is generating random terrain using the latest terrain creating and rendering technology. Using the decimation algorithm simplify the height data, creating the triangle list, and rendering the terrain already known on computer. At the same time, the program will generate the height data of terrain around the known terrain patches,and render it making sure the whole scenery does not look fragmented. And this paper will compare several decimation algorithms and try to find one most suitable for this. And it will also analyse some algorithms of fractal geometry for example: Poisson faulting, Fourier filtering, Midpoint displacement, successive random addition, Summing band limited noises, and etc. And try to find one algorithm could handle this situation—generating the additional terrain data when we have already known some terrain height data in the scenery.Combining the subject, this paper has made a simulation instance of the situation it just mentioned. And this program will use the latest technology to make the scenery looks more realistic and faster. And We improve the technology of realism and real-time in order to fulfilling the real-time rendering of realistic image on personal computer.
