The TV ratings industry began to develop in China in the 1980's along with the widespread presence of TV and the commercial maturation of China's TV media market. TV broadcasting's value has continuously xx and developed. TV ratings have also become the"TV industry's trading currency"for TV stations, program production companies, advertising and media agencies and advertisers and are used by all of them to evaluate the efficiency of TV programs. Data is also used to identify advertising timeslots price value. TV ratings have an important economic value and data clients as well as society requirements for TV ratings quality continuously are on the increase.CVSC-Sofres Media's (CSM) TV ratings data is the de facto"Chinese TV media industry trading currency", and this position requires the actualization of a data quality control system to ensure the reliability of CSM's rating data. CSM, utilizes international standards for the successful control of margin of error and integrates the special characteristics of China's societal background and economic development in the creation of a set of effective TV rating quality control systems. CSM's quality control management experience is worthy of consideration by other domestic media research companies and other market research organizations. This document is a consideration of the following, a review of the market research industry's special characteristics and CSM an analysis of CSM's quality control procedures including:1,The concept of TV ratings and TV ratings research: A detailed analysis of the value of TV ratings as a trading currency, focusing on ever increasing levels of quality control for the data variables and all aspects of data collection related to the margin of error and special quality control points.2,The TV ratings product characteristics and margin of error types: A look at TV ratings as a market product and its intangible qualities that are accompanied by non retroactive differences. This section also looks at the types of sampling error arising from the process and the sampling error not caused by the sampling process. The control of non-sampling error is the key to quality control.3,The existing data collection methods -- the primary means of data collection are the diary and PeopleMeter methods: The diary system is quite widespread and widely utilized and the good sampling frame used keeps the error low. However, the excessive dependence on data's link to people's recording of information brings about more non-response error and measurement error; On the other hand with the PeopleMeter method, the measurement accuracy is substantially higher because the machine collects the information as opposed to the person. At the same time the installation of the required equipment causes the exclusion of some households and there is also a unique non-response error associated with this system. The advantages and disadvantages of each method require a different emphasis when it comes to quality management.4,CSM TV ratings methodology procedure analysis: This section covers an investigation into ratings survey sample design processes, establishment surveys, data collection and the data processing steps. In each of these respective processes the key requirements for controlling the error are examined and quality methods for each stage explained.5,CSM TV ratings research quality control analysis: Under the given of CSM's quality control considerations a detailed discussion and analysis of the diary and People Meter quality controls methods is undertaken and the optimized combination of the quality system examined.6,The challenges facing the future development of TV ratings survey: The challenges come from the audiences and the technological developments of TV. TV ratings have developed strategies to deal with this including developing new research technologies along with in depth data analysis research to ensure that TV ratings maintain their vibrant vitality.
