It can reduce the length of the pulse forming line on the premise of forming the same output pulse width to adopt a helical structure. This is significant to the research of miniaturization of the power pulse system.For a start, the operating principle of the helical line was analyzed and basic experiment was carried. The relations between dielectric, numbers of circles and the characteristic parameters of the helical line were studied. On the basis of this, by the study of the pulse form of a Blumlein under high voltage, breakdown between circles and the distortion of waveform were solved.Using a self-designed Blumlein line, the abilities of voltage-resistant on condition of castor oil and transformer oil were separately studied. The result shows that it is better to choose transformer oil. In the castor oil, a quadrate waveform no higher than 450KV with a pulse width about 310ns was gained on a 80Ω water-load. While in the transformer oil, the voltage-resistant ability was higher than 650KV, we can gain a series of output quadrate waveform of 650kV&6.5kA on a 100Ω diode load with each has a pulse width of 220ns. The pulse-width formed on this device is 5 times wider than a normal Blumlein line of same size. It had been successfully used in a 600KV long pulse power source.The feasibility of forming few hundred nanosecond width waveform of pulse forming line with helical line instead of normal coaxial line was approved. A quadrate waveform witch can meet the requests of application could be gained under a rational design.
