VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a digital voice transfers technology based on IP networks, which identified by voice packet-switch. During the past 10 years, VoIP technology has became mature and mature, VoIP industry has developed fast. Meanwhile, with the development of embedded technology, the application of embedded system has extended from control system to consumer electronics. The combination of embedded and network communication has been attracted more and more attentions. Embedded VoIP terminal will be an important application of embedded system.SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a signaling protocol by IETF. SIP designs with reference to thought of many mature internet standards and protocols. SIP message uses text format, which is adapted to embedded system with less computing abilities. SIP has good ability of expansibility, mobility and media-negotiation. All these characteristics are helpful to enhance the interoperability, opening ability and compatibility between the embedded network devices. Therefore, this paper presents the thought that applying SIP to the embedded system and validates the feasibility of the thought through an example, the design and implementation of embedded SIP terminal. This pager studies on the architecture, realization, message mechanism and signaling flow of SIP and put great emphasis on the application of SIP stack with reference to excellent open-source SIP stack, oSIP.Propose the system structure of embedded SIP terminal. Builds the embedded hardware platform with Samsung S3C2410, which is of ARM9 architecture. Ports Linux 2.4.18 to S3C2410. Design and implement embedded SIP terminal based on these. At the last, this paper completes test of embedded SIP terminal prototype device and analyses the test result. The result shows that the plan this paper proposed is correct.
