As the appearance of distributed computing platform such as .Net and J2EE, and component specifications as CORBA, the traditional software development methodology based on program design is changing to the methodology based on component. Meanwhile the theory of SOA is changing the internet application pattern from page-web, application-web to web service. Many researchers on database and software engineering field have been paying wide attention to web service, which is a new type of component. How to integrate elementary services from different providers, different platforms, or different systems in order to implement application system for complicated business task, has become leading edge in the field of software reuse research.Based on the analysis of SOA, this paper brings out the problems existing in many service compositing platforms, including the shortage of supporting massive heterogeneous service composition in network, insufficient capability in application-demand-oriented development approach, and ineffective control of dynamic services composition. To solve these problems, a heterogeneous services composition platform (middleware) is designed and implemented. Moreover, some key technologies in this platform are studied. A XML-based model of heterogeneous services description language and its corresponding data specification are proposed. This model achieves semantic compatibility in heterogeneous services composition and configuration. A heterogeneous services registry using B/S mode and its data specification are designed. They implement management and organizing of massive services. A heterogeneous service searching algorithm based on sparse feature tree and a model for service matching degree computation are given. It provides user with an executive, effective and accurate service searching method. This works implements a uniform approach for heterogeneous services description, registration and publish, searching and matching. And it provides foundation for application-demand-oriented analysis, processes definitions, and dynamic control of composite services coordination and execution in heterogeneous services composition platform (middleware). It has progressive significance in application and theory.
