With the magic development of information technology including semiconductortechnology, sensor technology, embedded technology and communication technology, theusing of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which can apperceive, calculate, store andcommunicate has been wider and wider, and the field oil pipeline leak monitoring is one ofits important application fields.This paper has introduced the subject background at first, including current situationof pipeline leak detection, the advantages of Wireless Sensor Network and its currentsituation of research, put forward the novel field oil pipeline leak monitoring system basedon Wireless Sensor Network technology and set forth the main function and techniquetargets. Secondly, based on the system framework, design principles and actual applicationbackground of Wireless Sensor Network, this paper has recommended the design schemeof framework of the oil piPeline leak monitoring system, describing how to realize thefunction of every part of the system, then illuminated the hardware design of themonitoring node, in which we choose the low-power microcontroller C8051Fi21 as thecore, RF chip CC2420 compliant with IEEE 802.15.4 protocol as the wireless transceiver,and a special device to realize synchronization between nodes. In addition, we have taken aseries of energy-saving measures and an energy-managing strategy called "power supplycascade control" to extend the working life of the node, have completed the bottom driverand circuit board debugging. According to the power test, the node can be used for morethan one year under certain conditions, having reached the basic design requirements. Inthe end, based on all of the summary and conclusions of my research work, somesuggestions and prospectfor further researching is put forward.
