| With the growing up of the technology of multimedia, the development of network and the enhancement of the information-processing capacity, there is an urgent demand of Multimedia Database development and improvement. The multimedia data have many characteristics, such as a great quantity, the wide variety of kinds and diversification of data structure and data format, so it is very complex to design multimedia database and multimedia database management system. Although many modeling ways for multimedia database have been raised by former scholars, none of them were best implemented. The main features of them are that their application scope are single, their function is not enough, and so on. XML is emerging as a markup language, and it does a good job on markupping and transmition network data. At the same time, it can describe semi-structured data. So its combination with other database technology can provide a way for multimedia database modeling.In this paper, we use combination of XML technology and relational database to realize the modeling. We mainly focus on multimedia data storage and retrival, as well as multimedia data relationship storage and retrieval, and raise a complete multimedia database modeling framework. The main contributions of this paper are:(1) Profoud research about multimedia database modeling technology. It propose methods of multimedia storage, media feature extraction, XML document generation and multimedia database retrival for the proposed multimedia databse modeling framework.(2) Using XML-QL achieve the inquring of multimedia data relationship. Based on XML and multimedia data relationship graph, it raises two concepts, which are "sequence" and "parallel", and it gets the represention method in XML of multimedia data relationship graph. Then it comes up with a way to judge the relationship between two multimedia data which are "adjacent", "connected" or some other. Using XML-QL, it also realizes the retrival of "adjacent", "connected" and "until" relationship among multimedia data, and raises an optimized plan on such retrival. (3) Design a multimedia database prototype system using the proposed methods. The system indicates that using the combination of XML technology and relational database to modeling the multimedia database is reasonable and practical.Through this work, this paper theoretically and pratically designs a completemultimedia database modeling framework. And this method provides a realization ideafor multimedia database applications on networks. |
