Hole-restoration strategy is a prominent and difficult problem in the fields of Computer vision, image analysis and pattern recognition, of which the research works have been applied in many fields, such as plastic surgery, archaeology, detection and so on. In recent years, much work about skull hole-restoration has been done at home and abroad, which, however, mainly presented one skull hole-restoration method for all the holes, without classifying the different kinds of skull holes, hence, the algorithm is lack of pertinence. The skull holes have been detailed classifies the different kinds which based on the slice data by CT scanner and the algorithms are achieved and accomplished in the paper. The main contributions of the thesis are as follows:1. Focus on the redundant data of U-shaped metallic, clothes and shoulder tissue images and on the basis of detailed analyzing of the features of redundant data, methods are presented to remove kinds of redundant data, and proved to be effective with experiments, which have been providing a good foundation for the following work.2.This paper classifies skull holes into different kinds based on skull-hole's size, integrity of the antimere of hole, variety of the normal of hole' location, and presents different restoring methods for each kind. All the methods have been tested and the errors have been carefully analyzed.3. Using VC6.0 and MITK, the system prototype of computer aided hole-restoration is designed, which implements the function of removing redundant data of CT slices. The system can use different methods to restore different kinds of holes pertinently as well as restore a single hole with a couple of methods combined together. All these methods have fairly good effects in the process of skull restoration.
