| Digital Image Magnification is a technology to get a larger size of the image through a smaller one. It has wide applications in the domain of multimedia communication , iatrology, police security, telemetry and avigation. Recently, it is regarded by many researchers in Image Processing area at home and broad. There are usually two steps of Image Magnification: Interpolation and Post-processing. First, we summarized the recent work in this area, discussed several interpolation methods and the artifacts introduced into the interpolated images: the jaggies and blurred contours. Then we studied several models based on PDE of Anisotropic Diffusion that used in post-processing, including Directional Diffusion and Directional Diffusion for Multi-valued Images. Results show that they have good effect in smoothing the contours, but weak in restraining the blurred contours. To overcome the disadvantage of those models mentioned above, we suggests to adopt Self-Snake model and Color Self-Snake models in post-processing of the interpolated images. First, we analyzed the theory of self-snake model which shows it has good effect on the jaggies and blurred edges. Then we also define a parameter to measure the sharpness of the contours quantitively. Comparative experiments of artificial images and real images showed the improvements of our suggestions. |
