The End Of The Design, Embedded Instant Messaging Client Based On Jabber Protocol

Instant Message is the technology to support online communication for its customers. With Instant Message, a customer can know whether his subscribers are online and communicate with them. Instant Message is based on a serial of protocols. Jabber protocol uses distribution network architecture and modularized expansive system architecture, which makes it easy to develop and expanse in many fileds.Instant Message develops very fast in the field of embedded application. The popular embedded Instant Message clients are mostely based on Symbian, PPC, Palm OS and other comercial operation systems rather than open-source systems likeμCLinux. The goal of this paper is to design an embedded Instant Message client that can run onμCLinux. This client uses Jabber protocol as which is an open source protocol.This client uses Freescale MCF5329EVB evaluation board as its hardware platform. We use Micro Windows and FLTK to design its graphic user interface. This design is designed with several layers and it's easy to be ported to other embedded platform. This client contains the foundational functions of Instant Message and meets the basic need of embedded terminal, so it is valuable in both economy prospect and technology prospect.At first, this paper introduced the background of Instant Message and knowledge of Jabber protocol, which includes XML elements, roster and establishment of session .Then, this paper introduced the embedded platform of hardware and software. This paper described the modularized design of client, mostly focused on the APIs and implement of each module. This paper also described the test plan and the result. At last, this paper made a summary of the design and gave some suggestions for further development.
