Quick moving objects such as flying pellet and fragment from explosion are usually demanded to take a picture in the research on fluid mechanics and detonation physics. But their speed is very high, so high-speed camera is necessary.Because of its unique forte, shadow photography is often applied in projects. In 1986, YA-16 high-speed shadow camera which was successfully designed in Nanjing University of Science & Technology, had good quality. But more than 20 years later, its sequential control system has been seriously aged. Now accompanying with technology improvement, the initial control unit Z-80 is lower than the capital single-chip machine in the integration level and function. Its result is that the initial sequential control system is complicated and must be improved as soon as possible.In this paper, the main work is that ,the sequential control system of multi- spark high speed shadow camera is designed, based on YA-16 high-speed shadow camera. The core of the system is AT89S52. Main content of this paper consists of designing hardware, compiling program and debugging system. The function of the system is that user can pre-set scintillation time delay for 16 channels, and modify it by input device. The time delay of every channel is optional, which can be random integer from 10μs to 10 ms. It indicates that we can take a picture by the optional speed from hundred thousand pictures per second to hundred pictures per second. The system has important engineering application values.The hardware and software of the designed system in this paper have past the simulation. The system can output impulse, frequency of which is set by user. At present the system has been successfully applied in the correlated experiments and study. The result of experiment shows that the designed proposal of this system is correct, the design of hardware and software is successful, and this method is reasonable.
