With the developing of the electronic science and technology and the widely use of electronic products, the electric power and electronic technology is becoming more and more important. Because of their advantages as: high output accuracy, high efficiency, good reliability, and the capability of reducing the size and weight of the transformer, switching power systems developed rapidly in many areas.The residential electricity power must be converted to lower DC voltage through AC/DC conversion before power up most electronic products. Switching power systems find popular application in AC/DC conversion. Because of their high power efficiency, low cost, small size, they have replaced the linear AC/DC converters, and became the first choice in AC/DC converting system.The purpose of this work is to design a switching AC/DC controller chip based on SinoMOS's 1um depletion NMOS process. The analysis of the research of switching power systems and the BUCK AC/DC converter are made before the design. The controller is designed to drive power switching device to realize AC/DC voltage converting. It is featured by its capability of working under a wide range of VDD, 8V to 40V, multi-functions including: over current protection, under voltage lockout, over voltage protection, clock leading edge blanking, and soft restart function. After the circuit design, the sub blocks and whole system are simulated and verified within Hspice software. And the layout is finished. The outcome of this work contains the well-designed circuit, the simulation wave form, and the layout.The paper contains subjects listed as below:(1) Fundamental of switching power system, the meaning of the research, and the research situation at home and aboard.(2) Introduction to BUCK configuration, its working principle, feedback control method and so on.(3) The design of the circuit system that meets the requirements proposed. Describe, design and analyze every sub block of it. After that, simulate each block with Hspice in SinoMOS's simulation library and obtained simulation wave forms. At last, the whole circuit is simulated and verified its functions.(4) Layout design with Virtuoso (Cadence) software.
