With the expansion of the network size,the research of the network traffic characteristics has become one of the most important directions in the network performance area.Through the studying of the traffic characteristics,we can provide the necessary support of predicting network performance,QoS services and SLA services.Since the vast majority of the networks are using TCP/IP protocol,the search of basing on IP packet has been the most important part in traffic measuring.As a collection of IP packet,IP flow can not only show the characteristics of packet,but also reflect user's preferences from higher level.It is more important to provide foundation in order to relieve the network congestion.So based on the research of the IP flow characteristics we provide a new ECN algorithm.In this paper,we first analyzed the background and the actuality of the network traffic measurement.And then the measurement techniques and methods are carried out in-depth research,the active and passive measurement methods and their comparative analysis are focused on.Combining the theoretical knowledge of traffic analysis,analysis method of IP flow is discussed in detail.Based on the above theory analysis,this paper carried out research in the following areas:1.Through collecting the campus network traffic,this paper carried out different comparative analysis from business type,protocol characteristic and traffic characteristic,and found that TCP flow is the main factor of IP flow.Those TCP flow are mainly produced by browsing the Web site.Besides we also found that in different period the TCP flow occurred sudden emergence.All kinds of measurement results show that the possibility of network congestion becomes larger if the network produces sudden emergence of flow.2.This paper brought out a new congestion algorithm based on flow measurement.It not only described the network load,but also combined it's average queue with feedback index in order to monitor the network congestion.Besides it takes different value to the congestion window.When the network congestion occurs,it preferentially removed redundant information and IP flow which have less worth in order to guarantee most normal IP flow transmitting safely.As the algorithm maintains the router queue at a relatively stable state,it permits the packet bursting and eliminates the bias of the abruptly coming flow.3.At last,through comparing two performance parameters——congestion window and round-trip time of the two arithmetic we testified that in the same environment the new one has higher resource utilization.
