The Image Of Chinese And U.s. Leaders In The News Photos Comparative Study

In this thesis, I conduct a content analysis of the top leader's news photographs from American news periodical TIME (from 1987 to 2003)and China's OUTLOOK in a period from 1994-2008 without issues in 2000 .By the analysis, I find that the differences between the the image of the US president and Chinese leaders. The image of the U.S president includes sport image, friendly image, commom people image, aggressive image, high-profile image. While for the Chinese president and the prim minister, low-key image, mildness image, friendly image and squareness image dominate the OUTLOOK. Then I analyze the factors that cause the difference in five ways: political factors, cultural factors, economical factors, personal factors and system factors.Since the news photo is material, I decide to select some typical press photosto make an analysis of those photos which reflect the image of the leaders from technical angle and give some suggestions on photographing for the leaders asChinese leader's image in the news photo is not rich compared with his counterpart in the United States. But the situation was slowly changing in 2008 as the image of Hu Jintao was far more colourful.This article could be mainly devided into four parts: related literature review; introduction of the sample and show of the statistics; analysis of the two cournty's top leaders'image according to the statistics; suggestions on the image-shaping of the Chinese leaders .
