In the construction of telecom network , design and construction of metro area transmittion network are becoming more important .Especially, there are all kinds of based on the SDH network. So we must think over the continuity, compatibility, operation and expansibility of the network in emphases. At the same time, we also think over the demand of VIP, DATA and 3G . We must program,construct and manage the metro transmittion network in union.Aiming at the demand of network construct and application development,this paper analyses the MSTP technology and applications which is fit for the SDH network.Firstly, this paper describes the configuration model and characteristic of metro transmition network. We also research the situation, development direction,problem, demand and resolving scheme.Secondly, this paper research the key technology of MSTP, such as Virtual concatenation, encapasulation technology for MSTP: GFP( Generic Framing Procedure), LCAS(Link Capacity Adjustment scheme). We discuss how to use these key technologies to complete the node function and model.This paper compares the different applications of the network construction on the base of MSTP technology.With China Unicom group's strategy in mind. Tianjin Unicom built MSTP network, based on it's practical needs and conditions.
