The autonomous mobile robot will be widely involved in industry, space exploration, housekeeping and so on. In unknown environment, it's the focus to solve the self-localization and map building in the mobile robot field. In other hand, because of the benefits of Internet, the issues of the networked robot become hot. According to the issues above, paper designs a kind of exploring mobile robot have the capacity of communication based on wireless network.Firstly, the whole framework of the exploring robot system is designed. The system includes two subsystems, the mobile robot and the remote state monitoring system. The robot explores the environment and the monitoring system draws the map. The robot can be divided into three modules, which includes drive module, sensor module and decision-making module.Accroding to the robot subsystem, real time position argrithm and path planning argrithm is designed. Real time position argrithm depends on electronic compass and odometer. Path planning argrithm use infrared distance meter and laser range finder to conside the size of the robot and improve the angular resolution for obstacle detection.Accroding to the remote state monitoring subsystem, paper desiged the map building aegrithm. The feedback information of robot's self-localization and path planning is used to build the map. The montoring system can give targets to the robot via wireless network, monitor the state of the robot real time, and build the map of remote enviroment explored by the robot. At last, the mobile robot system's experiments are done including real-time location, laser raning. Accroding to the experiments, the effect of path planning argrithm and improved path planning argrithm is analyzed...
