Virtual surgery simulation is an application to simulate the different situation that may occur in real surgery. It can make the medical personnel immersed in the fictitious scene, experiences and studies how to deal with the actual conditions in various clinical operations. It's greatly saved expenses and time in training medical personnel and greatly reduced the risk for unskilled personnel to practice the operation. There are very great meanings in promoting the improvement of the medical level.Soft-tissue cutting is a important part of virtual surgery system. Cutting algorithm is required to be able to accomplish the cutting simulation with high sense of reality, real-time interaction and stability.This paper discussed algorithm complexity, time cost and stability of tetrahedral subdivision in virtual surgery. In research of algorithm complexity and time cost, a new method was proposed to overcome the defects of the prior method of tetrahedron subdivision. To simplify the procedure and improve the efficiency, the rules were represented to convert the 3 types of uncompleted subdividing tetrahedron into the other 2 types of completed subdividing tetrahedron. And the special cases that may happen during the subdivision procedure were discussed and solved, so the cutting operation is speeded up because of the simplification of the subdividing types. And a method of moving vertexes based on line and extended cutting line was represented to improve the tetrahedron quality and stability during the continuous cutting operation without the adverse effect of time cost and reality. And then implement the algorithm in the simulation environment.
