From the appearance of copycatting phone in 2003 to the other various copycatting products, copycatting has been the gradual shift from the represent of goods to a social cultural phenomenon. On December 2nd,2008, China Central Television' News Report broadcasts a 2-minute-long discussion on the copycatting phenomenon which had been pushed to the climax by the media once again.Copycatting is not a haphazard phenomenon, its existence is a grassroots'pursuit for freedom of thought, so it will not disappear in a short period of time. "Copycatting", the most popular word in recent years has permeated into all aspects of human life, from the initial copycatting product to the present "copycatting culture". No matter considering life style or ideology, we can no longer live without this concept. The power of Internet technology has facilitated the conditions for further expansion of copycattingThis study discusses the mode of the copycatting culture on the basis of mass communication, analyzes the relationship between the communicator and receiver, examines the motivations, contents, and functions, and implies the advantages and prospects from the communicative level of "copycatting culture".The first two parts introduce this paper's research ideas and research methods. In order to explain the significance of "copycatting culture", paper describes the rise and development of "copycatting culture". Then this paper shows opposite evaluation of "copycatting" in order to discuss that culture.The paper's third part conducts detailed analysis of "copycatting culture" from essential factor of "5W mode". Through analysis of that culture's whole process, we found the advantages and disadvantages of "copycatting culture". This paper argues that "copycatting culture" is a very special communication means. Firstly, it has a unique advantage that people could vent their emotions and ease the pressure through it. Secondly, it meets the needs of grassroots communities who in pursuit of personal values. Meanwhile, the "copycatting culture" give a new interpretation to the "gatekeeper", "spiral of silence" theory.So "copycatting culture" is a good Research objective.The fourth part analyzes the reaction that social backgrounds (such as economic, political, ideological and cultural) treat to "copycatting culture" phenomenon. From the analysis we found that the special economic,political and cultural provide good environment for the rise and growth of that culture.The last part the author discusses problems and prospects of the "copycatting culture"."Copycatting culture" has brought an unprecedented impact to our social awareness and the legal system. People have different attitudes towards it, which offers the public opinions and joys one side, but the malicious imitation and pornography on the other, if there is no proper policy guidance and a reasonable social supervision, the "Copycatting culture" will be at stake. Although people hold different attitudes toward "Copycatting culture", which the author thinks has a prosperous future, it can't be totally denied because of the few mistakes at the beginning, and a good environment should be provided. In the mean time, the problem should be solved with the legal system, social supervision, people's awareness, and the proper media guidance.It is clear that "Copycatting culture" is the development of civil power and grassroots spirit, which will be responsible for the adjustment and supervision, so it is believed that the "Copycatting culture" will have a prosperous future under good atmosphere.
