With the development of communication and computer technology, various continuously emerging technologies have provided the public with diverse means of communication and prevalent access services. To achieve the self-organized and self-adapted ubiquitous services in the real sense, however, the complementary features of different networks have to be put into full use so that the integrations of heterogeneous networks can be fulfilled by means of mobility management mechanism. Among various technologies, the vertical handoff technology is one of the key and hot topics of research in the field of mobility management. The author focuses on the design and fulfillment of mobility handoff module applied to the built-in mobility terminals, including:Firstly, the author analyses in detail the MIPv6, NEMO, and SIP mobility technologies related to handoffs and proposes, with regards to handoff strategies, a multiple standard decision method based on the fuzzy criteria.Secondly, the author, with respect to the light-weight features of the built-in mobility terminals, put forward a relatively complete fulfillment plan for terminal protocols, and meanwhile designs and fulfills a kind of stateless SIP module, MLS module, handoff decision module and MIP module.Thirdly, based on the abovementioned results, the author, concerning the ARMs3c2440 development board, achieves the transplant and test of the abovementioned results in the Linux environment.Last but not least, GPRS and WLAN experimental platform have been put up in the laboratory environment and the vertical handoff functions have been fulfilled, and analyses have been made towards the handoff functions by means of average time-lapse quotient and other parameters.
