Subcalibre fire direction trainer is an artillery training system that supports fire direction practices in subcalibre fire range using miniature ground to simulate battery deployment and impact point of bullets to simulate burst of shells. The trainer, featuring easy organization and vivid training scenes, is conducive to the improvement of artillery commanders'fire direction capability. The present research on a certain type of subcalibre fire direction trainer mainly examines the key techniques involved in ground simulation, system design, and application software for fire direction practice. The simulated ground chiefly comprises three sections: target area ground, observation post, and simulated gun position. In light of the principle of convenience and safety in application, and cost efficiency, the research analyses the stacking and mapping techniques as of the target area ground, and the requirements for deployment locations of observation post and simulated gun position.System design is the core of the research. The system employs closed ring design and additional feedback circuit, which combine to enhance the system's accuracy, reliability, stability and technical performance. And the use of local area network technology and bus structure greatly improves the flexibility and comprehensive capability of the system. Networking capability made possible thereby supports training at artillery battalion or group level. Building block design is also an important feature of the system; the system consists of three intercompatible and interdependent modules—communication and control module, data calculation module, and stack control module, the three of which correlate respectively to communication and control panel, OP control panel, stack control panel.Application software for fire direction practice involves numerous complicated work items. The research proposes ways to develop application software on the principle of building block design, compatibility with fire direction procedures and convenience in conducting fire direction practice.
