Infrared imaging technology is an imaging technology by infrared light emitted by an object. The infrared imaging technology is earliest applied in the military field, it is immune to electromagnetic field, during the night it can imaging also, and it has strong diction capability. Therefore, the infrared image technology development rapidly, now it has widely used in industry, agriculture, medical, fire and other fields.With the development of infrared imaging technology, infrared image processing has became a research hotspot in the image processing field. In many cases we need to get the outline of infrared target in order to take it's shape and size, sometimes behavioral analysis. Therefore, extract infrared target's outlines is one of the research hotspots. As the infrared camera itself and the environmental impact, the infrared image compared with visible light images has some defects such as low contrast, edge blur, strong noise and so on. So, general edge detection method for infrared images have some problems. Active contour model is a new approach in extracted object outlines in image processing field. Many researchers have proposed improved models to extracted outlines of object in different types image. In this article, VFC active contour model with the improved vector field is used to extracted the infrared target's outline. The experimental result show that this method can extract the infrared target's outlines.Infrared imaging technology is not easily infected by weather, and can image at night , etc., In recent years, infrared imaging technology has developed rapidly in the transportation and border security fields, infrared target detection and tracking will become a research hot spot. In this paper, the infrared moving target tracking has been studied, apply VFC active contour models to track infrared target and extract infrared target's outlines, at the result experiment show that this method can more rapidly and accurately track infrared target.
