Automatic generation of training ground is a challenging and interesting subject for research in the filed of computer graphic application. Combing actual situations in training and the"SPG Diving Simulator"program, the present article explores the theories and technologies involved in the automatic generation of driving training ground based on real terrain for the purpose of enhancing the vividness of training environment and narrowing the difference between simulator training and real SPG driving. A key technology involved here is the construction of target envelope graticule and mapping of local texture. The article, taking roads and craters as an example, examines the algorithm for automatic generation of images and technologies of realization. Main points of research efforts are as follow.1. A local management algorithm is proposed for the efficient location of image points in the terrain graticules for irregular terrain and correction of values thereof.2. A road model based on framework structure and an algorithm based on polygonal envelope graticule are proposed. Proceeding from the structure and algorithm, the approaches to constructing roads and craters are found through the deletion of triangular plane, redemarcation of triangular network and correction of altitude of envelope apex.3. A simplified algorithm is attained to conduct mapping of texture coordinates through breaking road model down into rectangles or nearly rectangular isosceles trapezoids; texture mapping of road intersections is achieved through the texture modeling of feature points extracted from the intersections; texture mapping of crater is attained through globular mapping.Finally, the present research realizes the above-mentioned algorithm in the environment of VisualC++6.0 and DirectX9.0; the application of these methods are proved to be valid in SPG driving training simulator.
