Chengjiang Biota is the earliest known soft-bodied metazoan fossil evidence, with many enigmatic types including Yunnanozoon. Its unique histological characteristics and morphology is difficult to compare with living animals directly, making it difficult to determine the classification of positions, but these fossils are of great importance to reveal the radiation of early metazoan evolution. Different scholars have written many articles on the Yunnanozoon, using the materials collected from different areas, but no unified understanding on the morphology and classification of yunnanozoans. Based on the observation of Yunnanozoon specimens in our laboratory collected from the Chengjiang and Haikou area, in the use of statistical methods and taphonomy discussions, the structures of Yunnanozoon are revised, and its living habits, classification and evolutionary significance are probed into. |
