With the rise of the movement of vernacular landscape construction, the plant landscapedesign by simulating natural communities had been also attracting people's attention gradually inrecent years. The near-natural plant communities with multilayer structure had high stability, fewdiseases and insect pests, low maintenance management cost and good ecological benefits; whilethe community structures full of local characteristics could show the native plant landscape, fromthe perspective of vegetation. In this paper, the zonal forest vegetation of Purple Mountain in Nanjing was taken as theresearch object, based on simulation of the natural, semi-natural plant communities, this paperstudied the construction of the regional plant landscape systematically in Nanjing area throughusing rearch methods of literatures and theories, investigation and evaluation, discussion andreference. The main results were as follows:(1) This study used sample-plot and path methods to investigate and analyze the forestcommunities in Purple Mountain,35selected plots were divided into9associations by means ofTWINSPAN classification. At the same time, the results of DCA ordination of35plots and20main arbors revealed the ecological relationships between plant species, plant communities andtheir environments, and it gave reasonable environmental explanations.(2) Based on TWINSPAN classification, this research analyzed the species composition(flora, geographical elements), community structure, species diversity, interspecific relationship, ecological niche etc. of the natural vegetation in Purple Mountain adequately as the bases for itssimulation design and planting.(3) From the three aspects of ornamental value, resources development and utilizationpotential, biological characteristic, this study established a comprehensive evaluation system ofthe wild ornamental plant resources in Purple Mountain. According to different life forms,189wild ornamental plants which were chosen preliminarily were evaluated quantificationally byusing Analytic Hierachy Process (AHP),123wild ornamental plants (GradeⅠ,Ⅱ) that had gooddevelopment and utilization prospects were further screened, so as to make them developedscientifically and reasonably, utilized effectively; and among them21plants were recommendedemphatically.(4) Integrating the above research results, this research applied the theories including gardenart, plant landscape and took9associations as a unit to form20models of the plant landscapedesign which were suitable for the urban landscape green space through simulation. Meanwhile, the plant disposition and landscape characteristics of the aforesaid models were analyzed, and itdiscussed the planting technical theories and processes, seedling reserves and maintenancemanagement mearsures of simulating natural communities in the urban green space, in order to build out the near-natural plant communities with the coordination of landscape, ecology andnaturalness.
