The advantages of Au/Ag triangular plate-like nanoparticles include the sharp triangular plate-like structure, tunable surface plasmon resonance peak from visible to infrared light and strong localized field enhancement effect. They can be applied as contrast agents for optical coherence tomography (OCT) and substrates for biological molecule sensing, surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and surface enhanced fluorescence.AuAg alloyed triangular nanoboxes can be synthesized with Ag nanoprism templates. The synthesis process is simple and yield is very high. Raman probes with strong SERS effect were fabricated with AuAg alloyed triangular nanoboxes as substrates and dyes as Raman reporters. These Raman probes coated with polymers are very stable and biological compatible. Raman spectroscopy can be detected in vivo subcutaneous and even much deeper tissues with these probes. As a non-invasive technique, OCT can be applied to image the internal structures of rice grains. Optical attenuation coefficient can reflect the properties of rice grains and be calculated with OCT one dimensional signal. It also can be used to identify the varieties of rice grains. Au nanoprisms possess strong surface plasmon resonance absorption effect. The contrast of OCT system with sources at 1060nm can be enhanced with Au nanoprisms with an extinction peak round 1000nm.
