"Chinese Ancient Science" From The Angle Of "Local Knowledge"

The discussion on ancient Chinese science in the academic circle may be traced back longago,which focuses on the choice of standard of science. People on the basis of scientific standards aredifferent, the conclusions are different.This article from the post-modernism view of science, from the localknowledge view angle to undertake discussing to this one problem.To reveal the ancient Chinese scienceand local knowledge characteristics, so that the people of the ancient science of China has a newunderstanding.This article discusses from three perspectives. The first is the generation and historic origin ofPostmodernism, and also the contents and major ideas of post-modernist view of science and localknowledge which is characteristic of locality and practicality and shows solicitude and identity for differentcivilizations. The second is the point that the choice of standard of science is the essence of the debatebetween the two parties that are diametrically opposed to each other in the research of ancient Chinesescience. We should not pursue the modern western scientific criterion to measure all of human historyknowledge.It is a narrow concept of scientific knowledge which discussing the past from the perspective ofthe present or laying more stress on the past than on the present and judging China according to westernstandard。We should hold a historical perspective of dialectical materialism and cultural relativism, andcognize ancient Chinese science and civilizations in the world objectively and inclusively,This is the new postmodern view of science knowledge which the local knowledge advocated.The last isthe analysis of ancient Chinese science from the perspective of local knowledge, especially pointing outthat its deeply inherent cultural identity. Taking Chinese medicine as an example and Considering thosegreat debates in history, we can emphasize that both Chinese medicine and western medicine are localcultural characteristics.The concept of local knowledge is new not only in form but also in idea. We should treat ancientChinese culture and science inclusively and equally and different human civilizations should coexistharmoniously.
