Polyarylates have many good qualities, which were high and new technology industries and people's living indispensable choose materials. But the traditional polyarylates'melting temperature and glass transition temperature are very high, and not easily soluble in ordinary organic solvents, so give the processing created difficulties. In this dissertation, mainly introduced the xanthone into the main chain in order to modify polyarylates, and on the study of the methods of synthesis and modify polyarylates. This paper was mainly composed of three parts as follows.1. Novel polyraylates contain xanthene units were prepared directly by a new diacid chloride-9, 9-Bis(4-chloroformylphenoxyphenyl)xanthene (BCPX) with various aromatic bisphenols by interfacial polycondencation. The polymers were produced with moderate to high inherent viscosities of 0.415?0.702dL/g, respectively. The resulting polymers showed glass transition temperatures(Tg)between 193?261°C. All polymers were amorphous and could be cast into transparent, light-colored, and flexible films with tensile strengths of 75.6?108.3 MPa, elongations at break of 1.9?3.1 %, and tensile modulus of 6.7?9.2 GPa. Almost all polymamides showed excellent solubility in organic solvents such as dichloromethane, chloroform, THF, pyridine, DMF, DMAC, 1,2? dichloro ethane, NMP.2. A series of new polyarylates contain xanthene units and BPA were prepared with 9, 9-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)xanthene(BHPX) and BPA in different ratio directly by interfacial polycondensation. This kind of polyarylates showed excellent manufacturability. These polymers had inherent viscosities between 0.51 and 0.66 dL/g, respectively. The resulting polymers showed glass transition temperatures(Tg)between 261?294°C. All polymers were amorphous and could be cast into transparent, light-colored, and flexible films with tensile strengths of 68.2?95.1MPa, elongations at break of 1.2?2.3%, and tensile modulus of 5.6?6.1 GPa. The polymers showed excellent solubility in organic solvents such as CHCl3, DCE, DMAC, DMF, THF, DCM, NMP.3. Several kinds of novel polyraylates contain xanthene units and Trifluoromethyl were synthesized from BHPX and 6F-BPA in different ratio with TPC by interfacial polycondensation. The inherent viscosities of polyarylates were in the range 0.406?0.512 dL/g. The results showed that these new polyarylates exhibited excellent heat-resistance, the onset temperatures taken at 10 % weight loss of the in nitrogen were in the range of 232?281°C,respectively. The polymers were amorphous and could be cast into transparent, and flexible films with tensile strengths of 75.3?85.2MPa, elongations at break of 1.3?1.8 %, and tensile modulus of 5.2?6.2 GPa. Almost all polyarylates showed excellent solubility in amide-type solvents such as DMAC and can also be dissolved in pyridine and tetrahydrofuran. All polymers were amorphous and could be cast into transparent, light-colored.
