Because of the excellent comprehensive performance of SiC particle reinforced Aluminum matrix composites, It has been widely applied in Automotive, aerospace, military and other fields. However, due to harding particles, the machining of SiC_p/Al composites become more difficult, Such as rapid tool wear, low tool life and intangibles processing quality. It has greatly limited the application of SiC_p/Al composites. Therefore, many scholars dedicated to research the machining of the SiC_p/Al composite, it is not difficult to find from the results of the study that there is an irreconcilable contradiction Which is among tool life, processing efficiency and processing quality in using traditional tool to machine SiC_p/Al composite materials. Based on this problem, this paper presented a new structure polycrystalline diamond (PCD) fiber cutters, developed the experiment of cutting SiC_p/Al composites by PCD fiber cutters and its comparative experiment by cemented carbide tools, analyzed the cutting force, machined surface topography, surface quality, material removal rate and other aspects, found a new way to improve processing efficiency and processing quality of SiC_p/Al composites, also had certain guidance and engineering value for machining SiC_p/Al composites.The main content of this paper were brifefly described as follows:Research status of machining SiC_p/Al composite materials at home and abroad was completely summarized, and the origin mind and research significance of fiber cutters were expound, the main content of this paper was proposed also.PCD fiber blades preparation, fiber blades sharpening, fiber blades assembly process was introduced, and the efficient and precise machining SiC_p/Al composites experiment scheme was conceived which is based on the fiber cutting tool. PCD fiber cutters wear morphology and wear mechanism of single fiber blades processing was studied, and surface morphology was analyzed.The experiment of milling SiC_p/Al composites by the carbide tool was carried out to researched the effects of cutting parameters on the cutting force and surface roughness. The optimal milling process parameters were obtained. and offered certain basis for milling SiC_p/Al composite material.The influence of the cutting force, the surface morphology, the cutting depth and feed rate on the surface roughness while PCD fiber cutters machining the SiC_p/Al composites material were analyzed, and formation mechanism of surface defects was researched. Finally, contrastive analysis of the fiber cutter and the carbide cutter for cutting the SiC_p/Al composites from material removal rate, the cutting force, the surface mass /the surface roughness est. were studied.Finally, summarization and prospect were presented in this paper.
