The application of helical surface is widely used in industry,such as, in the realm of oil, shipbuilding spaceflight, national defence industry and so on. Designing high-precision helical surface and how to process it precisely is one of the most popular topics in the scientific and technological circles. Theoretically, it has great comprehensiveness, referring to many subjects and making use of basic knowledge and scientific research achievements, such as the differential geometry, the meshing theory, the theory of matrix, the optimization method, numerical calculating method and CNC technology, etc. Further research on helical surface of precise modeling is needed to better provide a direction for processing.On the basis of researching the impact of important parameters on helical surface generic model and establishing a systematic model for special revolving body, through the study of method of differential geometry and enveloping, a helical surface generic model was presented by oriented curve model.According to studying commonness rule of modeling helical surface, using discrete numerical calculating method to deducing discrete generic model, computer simulation results validate the effectiveness of the method. A method of 3D solid modeling of the spiral surface was obtained based on manufacture method and meshing theory was developed on MATLAB platform, and it also describes how to calculate and amend tool tracks in the process of programming. Working deep in the expressions of helical surface generic model, the objective is to get a 3D digitized modeling which can provide high-precision reference model for CAM system. In this text a 3D solid digital modeling and its moulding information can be discerned by Pro/E though Matlab handling coordinate data into .ibl file and computer simulation results validated the effectiveness of the method.This paper provides analysis and summary about tool track creation methods of commonly used CAM software, though compared the advantages and disadvantages of each method, based on the principal curvature match, constant scallop-height tool path planning method, a method of self-adaption cutter-axes vector is advocated. It shows clear advantage of the method taken by the paper against conventional methods, brings five-axis linkage CNC machine tools own advantages, avoid waste and confusion in processing capacity. Finally a simulation example of machining varying diametral helical surface is presented and the excellent performance of this approach is demonstrated.
