Blast furnace slag is the main by-product in the process of smelting the pig iron. There is 0.3 to 0.6 tons of blast furnace slag when every 1 ton of pig iron is produced. Nowadays, the technology of water quenching to treat blast furnace slag exists serious problems that cause environmental pollution and energy waste. It results in heat waste of about 10 millions tons of standard coal and 400 thousands tons of harmful air polluting emissions such as H2S, SO2. The dry centrifugal atomization of melts is a new way of atomization, using a motor to drive a atomizer to atomise melts or melt metals. It is the current research focus that studying dry slag treatment technology to recycle slag waste heat efficiently.This article presents the research and development of the atomization of the molten furnace slag`s theory and system.This article also includes upbuilding the mathematic model of centrifugal atomization by researching the theory of atomization of melts, and mastering the theory of atomization of melts by studying the structure, the speed and the radius of the atomizer. This system of atomization has been improved on the basis of the former theory, which is made up of 5 parts: the melting of metal, the conveying of melts, the atomization of melts, the waste heat utilization, the control and monitor by PLC. The key part of atomization---atomizer is designed with new idea in this article. The atomization becomes a reality and the factors which have an effect on particles can be controlled by choosing the centrifugal disk`s material and designing disk`s shape, radius, height, fixed rib andθinclination. The feasibility of the testing apparatus is proved by the cold state test and further proved by the thermal test, which establish the proper parameters of the atomization and get the law of the control of atomization.This system of blast furnace slag`s atomization has achieve its design requirements and main prediction functions by debugging and experiments. Mastering its law of atomization has a great instructive significance for blast furnace slag`s waste heat utilization.
