According to need of the times and the society on lower noise and efficient optimization of friction materials, base on many kinds of papers and books, the study on friction materials with low brake noise and its optimization methods is present.Three friction material samples with conspicuous different Rockwell hardness are produced after the previous experiments. The advanced LINK3900 test-bed in the all world applied to research the relation of the brake noise and the Rockwell hardness. It is consequently discovered that when the brake with friction materials of high Rockwell hardness is braking brake noises are produced. Therefore, the friction materials with the trait of lower hardness have a large effect on the brake with lower noises.The advanced LINK 1620 test-bed used to research the relation of the Rockwell hardness and the compressibility of friction materials. The result proves that there are the Rockwell hardness and the compressibility of friction materials exist, the formula between the Rockwell hardness and the compressibility of friction materials is found in this test system. It will supply the friction materials companies without the ability to test the compressibility with the basis that the compressibility is analyzed via hardness.Use the orthogonal test design and the grey relative theory to research Rockwell hardness and impact strength of friction materials. Consequently, it discovers that there is no direct relation between Rockwell hardness and impact strength of friction materials. It can verify that friction with the limit of the impact strength can has a low Rockwell hardness.The orthogonal test design and the operational research theory applied to research the optimization way to reduce the Rockwell harness when the impact strength and ingredients are set. The calculation procedure is set up. The test verifies that the optimization method is useful and effective. It compare with orthogonal test design, the comprehensive performance of friction materials is better.The extension theory and the uniform design test are used to research the formula optimization method based on the best comprehensive performance of friction materials by adjusting friction performance regulators which have little impact on mechanics of materials. The digital prototype of friction performance is set up; it makes the calculation procedures. The test proves that the performances of the optimized friction materials are very near to the deal performances, the errors are small, so the optimization method has some definite industrial prosperity.
