Study On Anti-corrosion Properties Of High Density Polyethylene Based Wood-plastic Composites

In this paper, wood-plastic composites (WPC) were prepared by molding process using high density polyethylene and wood fiber as the main raw materials. The effects of wood fiber content and various antimicrobial agents on the anti-bacteria of wood-plastic composites were studied by testing color, mass loss rate, the mechanical and other properties before and after corrosion.The results of the research are shown as follows:(1) WPC will be corrupted in the condition of Gloeophyllum trabeum, traces of different degrees are appeared on the surface and the color would become yellow obviously. Gloeophyllum trabeum can easily corrupt the wood fiber from WPC, but not in plastic.(2) With the content of the wood fiber increasing, the mass loss rate of wood-plastic composites will increase. It can be found that the higher the content of wood fiber, the larger the bending strength of WPC and the value of△E* changing; Especially, the number 4 composite materials that wood fiber/HDPE is 180:100 are the most severe corrupted,3 months later, the bending strength is 81.75% of the original and the value of△E* is 34.2.(3) Nano-silver antimicrobial powder and rosin amide have good antibacterial effects on wood-plastic composites.When the content of nano-silver antimicrobial powder is 1.5% of the total mass of composite materials, the composite materials have best antibacterial results, but the effect of nano-Zinc oxide is not obvious.(4) The bending strength of wood plastic composites is increased with the content of wood fiber increasing. Nano-ZnO and nano-silver antimicrobial powder have little effect on the bending strength of wood-plastic composite materials. However, with A antimicrobial agent or home-made rosin amides added, the bending strength of WPC decreases a lot.(5) The processing temperature of high-density polyethylene matrix composites is between 140℃~200℃. A antimicrobial agent is not suitable for application in high-density polyethylene matrix composite materials, there are a lot of holes when 2% of A antibacterial agent is added.
