Miniature products like parts with micro array holes are more and more widely used in areas such as printing, medical treatment and precision measurement. However, the design and manufacture of molds with high precision is the main factor limiting the development of miniature products. As a method of ultra-precision machining, micro-EDM plays a significant role in the processing of precision molds for its unique processing mechanism and excellent micro-scale manufacturing capability.Micro-stamping has good accuracy, high processing efficiency and low cost which forms parts of micro holes by plastic deformation. Therefore, developing equipment combined with the advantages of micro-EDM and micro-stamping has important theoretical and practical significance for the manufacture of parts with micro array holes.This paper has discussed the design of combined processing unit on a micro stamping system driven by linear motor. Firstly, by analyzing the requirements of the two processing technology, programs of the structure of micro-EDM spindle and micro-stamping mold are proposed, the model of moving platform is decided, dimension and precision design is finished and mechanical properties are checked for the main components of the device. In addition, the overall three dimensional structure design is also carried out in Solidworks 2007.Secondly, based on siemens motion control platform Simotion D445, combined process technology is designed, the overall function module for the software is divided. Motion control programming and WinCC human machine interface programming are carried out for the main function modules such as motion control, location control, micro-EDM and micro blanking after completing the configuration of the hardware and software for the system. Programs of pulse power system and gap detection system which are suitable for the combined processing device are also analyzed.Finally, according to the design of combined processing technology proposed above, some experiments were carried out about the online processing of micro punch, micro die and micro blanking on metal foils. Some analyses were proposed simultaneously using experiment data and processing quality was studied. Micro punch of 100?m in diameter and micro die hole of 120?m in diameter were successfully manufactured. Micro holes of 150?m in diameter with good quality on brass foil and stainless steel foil of 80?m in thickness were also successfully punched.
