SiCp/Al matrix composites have many excellent properties, such as high stiffness, light weight, wear resistance, low density, high thermal conductivity and dimensional stability, etc. So they are widely applied in aeronautics , astronautics, optical instruments, automotive ,weapons and other fields. With SiCp/Al matrix composites widely applied in many fields, more and more molding components need narrow slots, particularly engine piston, brake pads, plane's wings and other components are in need of a large number of narrow slots. However, because SiC reinforced particle has high brittleness and hardness, when narrow slots of SiCp/Al matrix composites are machined, it has some disadvantages, such as serious tool wear, workpiece breakage easily occur in the exit and entrance of narrow slots, etc. Therefore, it is urgent needed to find an effective machining method.In order to achieve high-quality and high–performance machining of narrow slot of SiCp/Al matrix composites, mill-grinding method was used to machine narrow slot of SiCp/Al matrix composites in this paper, it is aim to make some basic research work on machining narrow slot of SiCp/Al matrix composites, the main research work is as follows:(1) Based on the grinding principle, the impact regularities and reasons of the processing parameters, abrasive grain size, helix angle, grinding wheel shape and binder on mill-grinding force were studied and analyzed detailedly.(2) After mill-grinding fishing, the patterns and reasons of electroplated diamond grinding wheel wear and clog were studied and analyzed; The surface morphology of SiCp/Al matrix composites after machining was analyzed.(3) The impact regularities and reasons of the mill-grinding parameters and characteristics of grinding wheels on surface roughness are investigated and analyzed; The process of narrow slot of mill-grinding was investigated; The narrow slots of mill-grinding were structural integrity, the breakage of workpiece in the machining process could be avoided, mill-grinding is an effective method for machining narrow slot of SiCp/Al matrix composites.
