The nano - TiO2 photocatalyst was synthesized using sol-gel method. TiO2 thin film photocatalyst used dip-coating method successfully immobilized on the surface of the corrugated plate. Photocatalytic degradation of cellulose use the corrugated plate photocatalytic reactor is studied. In this action we researched the irradiation time, the TiO2 coating cycles and other factors. The cellulose was characterized by FTIR. DP of the cellulose was determined with Viscosity method. Changes compared before and after degradation of cellulose. The results showed that after the reaction of photocatalytic degraded cellulose that the chain of cellulose was not generated the new groups, many inter and infra hydrogen bonds were also disrupted, DP of cellulose was lower, the depolymerization ratio reached 88.5%.Cellulose was pretreated respectively with NaOH-solution, HCl-solution and ZnCl2 solution. The changes of cellulose were investigated by XRD, IR and SEM. It can be concluded that dissolved cellulose in ZnCl2 solution is an effective pretreatment method. It contributes much to the enhancement of the accessibility and reactivity of degraded cellulose.Having put the cellulose-ZnCl2 solution into the photocatalytic reactor assembled with corrugated plate for degradation, the investigation of cellulose degradation under UV light irradiation and the extraction from the reaction products (5-HMF) were carried out. When 10 g cellulose was dissolved in 100 ml ZnCl2 solution (66%), the irradiation time of ultraviolet (UV) lamp (power–21W) was 2 h, the TiO2 coating cycles was 9 and the corrugated plate angle was 42°, the 5-hydroxymethyl furfural yield in the corrugated plate photocatalytic reactor reached 3.87 %. Due to the enhancement of catalyst surface area illuminated by UV light and a large amount of photons captured on the catalyst surface, the energy efficiency per mass (EE/M) of the corrugated plate photocatalytic reactor for photocatalytic degradation of cellulose is 10.9 kWh/kg.
