Carbon resource, acid resource and gas resource are combined in 1-oxide-2, 6, 7 -trioxa -1- phosphabicyclo [2, 2, 2]octane-4-methanol (PEPA) and its derivatives which are ideal flame retardants with good flame-retardant effect. In this thesis, the PEPA derivatives of 1-oxide-2,6,7 -trioxa-1-phosphabicyclo [2, 2, 2] octane-4-chloromethyl (PEPC) and 1-oxo-2,6,7-trioxa-1-phosphabicyclo [2, 2, 2] oct-4-ylmethyl methacrylate (PEPMA) were prepared through a new method which the pentaerythritol and phosphorus oxychloride were used as raw materials. Then the effect of temperature, time, raw material ratio, species and amount of catalyst as well as other factors were investigated. Finally the optimal reaction condition was obtained. The yield (70.7%) was higher than that of reported before (35.0%) obtaind form the optimal reaction conditions that is the mixture of row materials with the molar ratio of 1:1 dissolved in DMF, 6.2% catalyst composed of tetrabutylammonium bromide and potassium iodide (weight ratio 5:7), and reacted at 85 oC for 24 hours. Besides, the structure of PEPMA was also characterized with FTIR and NMR.The PEPMA was introduced into the butyl acrylate polymer chain by copolymerization endowing the obtaied polymer with flame-retardant property. The structure and property of the copolymer were characterizated with NMR,GPC,DSC and TGA. The results showed that the highest char yield is 27.1% at 850 oC when 20% PEPMA monomer was added into the copolymerization system, which implied a good thermal stability. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) of the polymer is 28.3 which was calculated by empirical formula (LOI=17.5+0.4CR). These results indicated that the copolymer is belonged to the flame retardant material.
